Evanescence return this fall with Synthesis, their fourth studio album, slated for a Fall 2017 release. The group today, August 14, announced the “Synthesis Live” tour will launch this fall beginning October 14 on the west coast (confirmed dates below). Like the album, “Synthesis Live” will feature a reimagining of some of Evanescence’s best-loved songs with the spotlight on full orchestra, electronics combined with the band and Amy Lee’s virtuoso piano and voice. “This is a total passion project for me. There are so many layers in our music, underneath the huge drums and guitars,” explains Amy Lee of Evanescence. “I’ve always wanted to shine a light on some of the gorgeous David Campbell arrangements and programming elements in our songs, and that idea snowballed into completely re-doing them with full orchestra, not just strings, elaborate programming and experimentation. This will be our first time touring with orchestra and I’m so excited to perform this way-really focus on the vocals, and the emotion and the story we’ve built over the years. I’m also really excited about the new material on the album. Besides the two new songs, there are some really beautiful instrumental in-between moments. The whole thing flows like a big, dynamic soundtrack.” Source: Evanescence.com

Being totally honest, the new version of Bring Me To Life didn't blow me over like I'd have expected. Perhaps I'm just used to the drama and grandeur of Nightwish's Orchestral Versions, but it felt a little bit lacklustre to me. Not bad, but not special either.
I almost feel like Katherine Jenkins got there first when it comes to reworking this amazing song:
Still interested to to see how the rest of the project shapes up.

Ugh I hate Katherine Jenkins LOL
I was just thinking about making a thread for this album, Guess you beat me to it haha
This new version of Bring Me To Life does nothing for me tbh! The way the original is done is what makes it, the male vocalist, the guitars etc.

Cover is gorgeous and the track list seems pretty on point to be honest. Will check the new song in a sec!

I agree, the tracklist looks solid. I'm glad they included Lost In Paradise. My fave from Evanescence. Imaginary is one of my favourites from them too. 🙂
The new song is ok. Nothing we haven't heard before (which seems to contradict the point of this project?).

What a fucking pointless release.
The fans have been waiting for new material for years and the best thing they can do is coming up with shitty stripped dowm versions of already great tracks?
I was thrilled when I learnt about an orchestra being invovled in this project but from what I have already heard, I assume that they can't master it. They are no Nightwish and they are no Within Temptation.
The new song is utterly horrendous. A waste of energy and time.
Sadly, I think that they have lost their visions and they don't know where to go, musically.
They used to be brilliant but their last studio album already was mediocre at best. I am utterly disappointed and like their last studio album, I will probably not buy this and go listening to "Fallen" and "The Open Door" instead.

Yeah I'm not really interested either to be honest. Amy has one of the best voices out there, I wish they'd have just released a proper album, they could've just put this out on the side. I don't like the new song, hope it grows though. I am interested to hear Litium, Your Star, Lost In Paradise and Imaginary, hope they sound better than Bring Me To Life.

Bring Me To Life seems like a missed opportunity to me. It's nowhere near as epic and masterful as the original; which is strange considering it's an Orchestral Version. I kind of feel like they're just doing this to try and be like Nightwish / Within Temptation; who are both in a different league.
That said, I like the new track, and the artwork is stunning, so it will be nice to own it on CD. Hopefully there will be a few surprises in there. 🙂

It's like they are trying to be someone else but they clearly fail miserably. The new version of "Bring Me To Life" is simply boring and damages the iconic status of the song.

Not getting my hopes up for this to be honest, I hope it’s good but from what I’ve heard so far, I doubt it.
