I thought maybe this would be a good idea for a thread and something I'm definitely interested in reading about. So we are all aware of childhood amnesia and our inability to remember in detail events from very early in our lives. Research suggests adults are likely to keep their first memory from the ages of 3-4 but may be anywhere from 2-8 in some people. So I'd like to ask, what is your earliest memory from childhood?

The earliest memory I have is from April 1999 which happened to be when my family went on a trip to Disneyland Paris. I remember being carried by my dad into the dark cave near the main Castle which housed a big mechanical dragon. I remember it being very dark and all I could see was this giant glow in the dark dragon so as you can imagine I was terrified. I later returned to that exact spot 6 years later in the summer of 2005 and I remember being very disappointed. The dragon wasn't a big as a remembered it nor was it as scary

I can't say for sure what my earliest memory is, I have a lot of kinda scattered memories from between maybe 2-5. But I've no idea which ones were earliest to be honest. I have a few early Christmas memories and a few of my sister and I in our playroom, in our first house. And another of my dad trying to get a bat out of our kitchen ๐ To my knowledge they all happened before I turned 5, could've been anytime before that.

I can't remember anything really until the age of about 6/7. Everything before that is very abstract and a blurry mess

Haha๐
I saw that dragon when I was a kid too, went back this year and it just didn't feel the same. Seemed so much cooler when I was a kid.

For me it's playschool when I was about 3. I had a joint birthday party with another kid, and I remember it was in the school hall for some reason. My teacher was called Mrs Fox, and we had pink blancmange for pudding. I have absolutely no idea why I remember this. ๐
A few early school memories: In Reception my teacher was horrible. I remember her name and vaguely what she looked like. For one term, I was the youngest child in the school, and I was asked to help stir a giant Christmas pudding in assembly along with the eldest kid. In Year 1 there was an "incident" with a girl in my class who was deaf, and I was getting annoyed about it so I shouted at her so she could hear and got really told off lol. ๐ณ In Year 2 I had a friend who had a hole in her heart. She used to drive one of those red and yellow plastic cars. Does anyone remember them? Sadly she passed away that year. ๐ There was also a school nativity play when I was in infants, and I was a shepherd or something. We were all sat in a row on one of those balance beam things you use in gym class and the thing toppled back and all the kids went flying. ๐

I remember wondering why I couldn't play with Cindy and had to settle for WWF wrestlers.
Cindy was so pretty and she had nice dresses.
It's okay I had a little sister so I just stole her Polly Pockets ๐.
I also eventually got a doll, no-one knows except my awesome mum who got me it.
No wonder she wasn't surprised when I came out!

^ oh I used to have that issue too.
I really wanted a Barbie doll. ๐ข I used to love being invited to tea at a girl's house lol.
My Reception teacher even wrote in my school report that I spent "too much" time playing with the girls and not the boys in my class. They kept telling me I had to play football instead of Sylvanian families. ๐ My mum didn't really care though. She said she knew I was gay from a young age, particularly after I had a tantrum in a shoe shop because I wanted a pair of pink fluffy slippers. ๐๐ณ
Thankfully schools are a bit better now and not quite so rigid in their gender defining boundaries.

I have a picture that my parents took of me with my great grandmother when I was 3 years old. It's actually my earliest memory that I can recall because I actually remember my parents telling me to stand next to grandma, hugging her and taking the picture

Playing with my cousins in their garden when I was a little over 2 years old. Grass scared the shit out of me until I got into kindergarten, so I just sat and cried on a picnic blanket for hours, while everyone else had fun. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
